In God We Trust - Parish Theme for 2009-10
In God We Trust

In Spring 2009, after months of prayerful discernment about the world we live in and our call to serve God, our Parish Council and Staff wrote:

"We see God at work in all of the good works and calls for personal and social transformation occurring in our parish, our nation and throughout the world. We believe that God is inviting us to recommit ourselves to community and personal responsibility for one another. And we believe that God is calling us to a life that is focused on right relationships with one another, not one that is focused on acquiring ever more material possessions in a fruitless attempt to find genuine happiness."

In response to God's invitation St. Margaret Mary offered seven months of parish programs around the theme: "In God We Trust". In this time of economic insecurity we are called to trust in God for all our needs. But how do our lives, individually and as a parish witness to this faith? We believe that this crisis provides us with an opportunity to recommit ourselves to God and to those things in life that really matter.
  • What does trust in God mean in a time of great economic insecurity?
  • How do our fragmented hyper-busy lives make it more difficult to focus on those things that really matter?
  • What does Christian discipleship mean in a time of economic insecurity?
  • How can the current economic crisis help us re-imagine new ways of being Church and create alternative lifestyles that are more economically and environmentally sustainable?
  • Finally, as a parish, how can we model all of these values and principles?

From September 2009 through March 2010, parishioners of all ages were invited to reflect upon our parish theme, "In God We Trust". These programs, workshops, retreats and service projects offer opportunities to deepen our faith and our commitment to be a community of faith, called by God to be Christ for the world.

In addition, throughout the year, so to invite all of us to further explore the parish theme, members of the Pastoral Staff have shared their thoughts with a written reflection. Every few weeks, one of the staff´s offerings was published in the bulletin, and posted on this page. Here are each of their reflections:

Fr. Paul Hottinger: "Trusting In a God Who Sustains Us Day by Day"

Deacon Ken Miles: "A Leap of Faith"

Sr. Madelyn Gould: "A Call to Simplify - A Call to Trust"

Sue Davey: "Never Alone - A Reflection on Trust"

Deacon Terry Taylor: "In God We Trust to Give Children Their Wings"
