Discerning Our Parish Calling
Our parish Leadership Community (consisting of the parish council, pastoral staff members and our pastor Fr. Paul) is committed to a regular discipline of reading the signs of the times in order to better understand our parish’s God-given calling. They accomplish this task by engaging in a three-year discernment cycle.
During the first year of the cycle, which began in February, 2017, the Leadership Community began reading the signs of the times in order to better understand our constantly changing historical and social circumstances. The starting place for this work was gathering input from our parishioners about their concerns and hopes for their families, our nation and the world.
On August 19th the Leadership Community gathered in prayerful reflection in order to identify the signs of the times based on the input from our parishioners. The third step in our discernment process will access material from sociology, psychology, history and other cultural resources in order to better understand the signs of the times identified earlier. The fourth discernment step will make use of Scripture, Catholic teaching and theology in order to interpret the meaning of these signs of the times. Finally, in step five, we will determine whether we need to keep, revise or replace our current parish theme and calling in response to our new understanding of the signs of our times.
The purpose of this webpage is to keep parishioners informed of every step in this discernment process and to give parishioners opportunities to give input to the Leadership Community throughout the entire process.
