Daybreak Transitional Housing is a ministry that provides housing and supportive services to homeless families, while they work toward permanent housing and a quality of life that supports their needs. This program represents a unique partnership that joins the participating families with the professional services of Catholic Charities and the loving support of SMM parishioners. Daybreak offers stability to families, enabling them to stay together in housing that affirms their dignity and self worth. It empowers them to actively pursue work, career opportunities, training, and education. Daybreak establishes discipline by regularly meeting with SMM volunteers to work on financial planning, family goals, and life skills. Our goal is to “transition” these families to a productive, stable way of life.

Our ministry is composed of a group of mentors who meet regularly with the families to provide guidance in meeting the goals of the program and individuals who provide support in the way of clothing and furniture drives, apartment set up and clean up, mentor assistance when needed, participation in the Giving Tree program and Easter basket program, publicity to inform the parish on the progress of our families, and special projects. In addition, a chairperson, treasurer, and secretary coordinate the meetings and financial management of the ministry.

Meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month. To learn more about this ministry, please call the parish office (630) 369-0777.
